Bringing the clinic to the classroom: exploring innovation and collaboration with VetCompass Australia

VetCompass Australia (VCA) has a diverse collection of clinical records and a suite of related resources to assist with analysis, visualisation and management of the data. The product of a collaboration between Australia’s veterinary schools, VCA offers a range of opportunities for researchers, educators and students, and is expanding further into the teaching space.
This session explores how educators and their students can engage with the existing resources and invites participants to envision and shape the next generation of innovations. Through collaborative discussion and activities, participants investigate the use of real-world electronic patient records for teaching and imagine new possibilities for bringing the clinics to the classroom.
As veterinary programs evolve to meet accreditation requirements, preparing students for day one competencies with entrustable professional activities, access to resources such as genuine electronic patient records and case studies becomes increasingly important. Identifying, presenting and reporting critical information on clinical cases, resources and learning opportunities presents further challenges. Participants explore what these are and how VCA offers a collaborative approach to resolving some commonly encountered concerns.
Delegates are able to discover ways to integrate clinical records into teaching and enhance student preparedness. This workshop offers a unique opportunity for veterinary education professionals to participate in pioneering innovative approaches to veterinary education and meeting accreditation standards.
